Counselling & Psychotherapy

Counselling is about exploring how best we live our lives. It considers our current thinking and behaviour patterns and works towards ways of addressing life issues.

In psychotherapy, the process explores beneath the surface of personal problems, it helps you to reach the underlying, often unconscious source of a person’s distress. In this reliable setting of therapy a new and better understanding of difficulties can be achieved leading to self-empowerment and ways of dealing more effectively with life's difficulties.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

The theory behind CBT is that we develop patterns of thinking and behaviour in response to life experiences and events. These patterns may, initially, have served some kind of useful function or defence against anxiety or distress.

However, in many cases, these patterns outlive their usefulness and get in the way of our living healthy, happy and productive lives. CBT enables clients to gain insight and understanding into ways in which their thoughts and behaviour can actually maintain rather than alleviate anxiety and distress.

As a  mindfulness-based CBT practitioner, I work with clients to explore the patterns they have established and to introduce new ways of behaving and looking at themselves, at others and the world around them.

Mindfullness

Mindfulness involves deliberately bringing our attention into the present moment with open-hearted awareness and with an attitude of kindness towards ourselves. Developing Mindfulness helps us to find calm and stability in our relationships with ourselves and others in the midst of our busy, and sometimes stressful lives.

As human beings we are easily distracted and create habits of thinking back on past events or predicting the future. Mindfulness is a gentle way of being present and seeing clearly what is happening in our lives. It offers a way of freeing us from the automatic pilot and unhelpful ways of thinking and responding.

Mindfulness refers to a depth of awareness that is at the very core of our being and the practice of mindfulness supports us in nourishing and cultivating this simple awareness.
